CISA Unveils 2030 Strategy to Enhance Cyber Resilience
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has launched its CISA 2030 strategy, titled Defend, Harden, Prevail, which aims to enhance national security and the resilience of critical infrastructure. This initiative addresses the interconnected threats posed by cyber, physical, and geopolitical factors that can disrupt essential services.
CISA plans to collaborate with both public and private sector partners to bolster operational technology security, advance software security, and support the secure integration of emerging technologies. Additionally, the agency aims to improve the continuity of National Security and Emergency Preparedness communications.
A key aspect of the strategy is its anticipatory approach to identifying and mitigating malicious access to critical infrastructure. CISA seeks to enhance risk prioritization, mobilize partners, and coordinate responses to cyberattacks effectively.
CISA Acting Director Nick Andersen stated, "CISA 2030 provides a focused roadmap to strengthen defenses, eliminate adversarial footholds, and deny them any advantage that could endanger the nation’s security, economy, or public health."
The first pillar, Defend: Lead National Cyber Defense, focuses on reinforcing confidence in the integrity of information systems and the data they protect. This includes coordinating with partners to enhance defenses as adversaries evolve and leading national analysis to secure new technologies, such as superintelligence and quantum computing.
Strengthening Cybersecurity Through Collaboration
The strategy emphasizes integrating capabilities across government, industry, and international partners to improve understanding of threat activity and reduce national cyber risk. Collaboration with critical infrastructure owners and operators will prioritize modernizing operational technology environments, enhancing asset visibility, and strengthening supply chain integrity.
The second pillar, Harden: Prioritize National Infrastructure Security, aims to improve CISA's ability to translate intelligence into actionable operational measures. Planned investments in tools and technologies will enhance cyber defense capabilities, facilitate real-time decision-making, and enable quicker responses within the critical infrastructure community.
Data analysis of infrastructure will help identify priorities and direct resources effectively. The third pillar, Prevail: Mobilize National Resilience, will empower advisors across CISA's ten regional offices to support both cyber and physical security, mobilizing partners against ongoing threats.
