Jeff Daniels Cast in Shane Black's Spy Drama 'Bannerman'
Emmy winner Jeff Daniels is set to join the cast of the drama series 'Bannerman,' which is based on the popular spy novels by John R. Maxim. This series is the first to emerge from the co-production agreement between AMC Studios and Netflix, with Daniels being the first actor cast in the project, although he will not portray the title character.
The narrative centers on Paul Bannerman, a lethal covert operative who persuades a group of the world's most dangerous assassins to abandon their perilous lifestyles for a chance at normalcy in the suburbs of Connecticut. However, their attempts at retirement are complicated by old adversaries, lingering bad habits, a suspicious government, and an unyielding ex-cop.
In the series, Daniels will take on the role of Raymond Lesko, a notorious NYPD detective who has transitioned to a hotel security job after being dismissed from the force for seeking vengeance following the murder of his former partner. This haunting past continues to affect him, especially when he discovers that his daughter, the only person he truly cares about, is dating a man who poses a significant threat.
Final Assessment
The project is helmed by filmmaker Shane Black, known for works such as 'The Nice Guys' and 'Play Dirty.' This series marks Black's first venture into television as a writer and director. He will direct the first two episodes and co-write the inaugural episode with Craig Silverstein, who will also serve as the showrunner. Both Black and Silverstein will executive produce alongside Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten, who are known for their work on 'The Walking Dead.'
'Bannerman' is set to premiere on AMC in the U.S. and Canada, with episodes available on Netflix in those regions 90 days after the season finale airs on AMC. Additionally, Netflix and AMC will jointly release each episode in Australia, New Zealand, and Spain, while Netflix will have exclusive rights to the series in all other parts of the world.
