Satellite Images Indicate Iran's Nuclear and Missile Site Activity
Exclusive satellite imagery analyzed by CNN indicates that Iran may be working to reconstitute its nuclear capabilities, potentially violating a bilateral agreement with the United States finalized on June 17. The investigation highlights increased operational activity at various Iranian missile and nuclear facilities during late June and early July. Notably, the Parchin military complex, particularly the Taleghan 2 site, has shown signs of reconstruction aimed at repairing damage from previous US and Israeli airstrikes.
Additionally, satellite images from June 21 captured significant vehicle traffic at the underground Pickaxe Mountain facility, suggesting ongoing logistical operations while the diplomatic memorandum was in effect. The US government had temporarily lifted restrictions on commercial satellite data distribution, allowing for this intelligence to be gathered, but those restrictions have since been reinstated as military operations resume.
Both the Iranian government and US officials were contacted for comments regarding the findings. A Pentagon spokesperson declined to provide details, citing operational security. Meanwhile, President Trump announced that Iran has requested to continue negotiations, stating that the ceasefire is over. He indicated that a new round of talks is anticipated next week, potentially in Switzerland, as regional mediators seek to ease tensions following recent escalations. However, Iran's Fars news agency, linked to the Revolutionary Guards, denied reports of renewed negotiations. Trump has also authorized military strikes against Iranian targets in response to attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that Iran is eager to negotiate but expressing skepticism about their reliability in honoring any agreements.
