US Reconnaissance Aircraft Circles Kaliningrad for Over Three Hours
A US reconnaissance aircraft, identified as the Bombardier ARTEMIS II, was observed circling around Russia's Kaliningrad region for more than three hours, as reported by flight data analyzed by Sputnik. The aircraft departed from Mihail Kogalniceanu airbase in Romania at approximately 5:53 GMT and began its circular flight path near the Polish city of Augustow around 9:00 GMT. It maintained this trajectory until 12:23 GMT, when it shifted to a southwesterly direction.
The ARTEMIS II, which has been modified from a business jet by the US company Leidos for radar reconnaissance, is frequently deployed for missions in the Kaliningrad region and over the Black Sea, including areas near Crimea. This activity occurs against a backdrop of heightened NATO presence along Russia's western borders, which Moscow has described as an unprecedented buildup under the guise of countering alleged Russian aggression.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has consistently expressed a willingness to engage in dialogue with NATO, urging the West to reconsider its militarization policies on the continent. The ongoing flights of US reconnaissance aircraft in the region are seen as provocative, contributing to the already tense geopolitical climate.
