Military Intelligence Reports 4,000 Terrorists Eliminated Since October 7
Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder, head of the IDF Military Intelligence Directorate, provided an update to the Security Cabinet regarding the ongoing efforts to track down terrorists involved in the October 7 massacre. He stated that around 6,000 terrorists participated in the attack, which led to a significant incursion into Israeli territory. Over the past three years, Israeli security forces have successfully eliminated approximately 4,000 of these individuals.
Binder emphasized that the Military Intelligence Directorate is actively pursuing the remaining 2,000 terrorists who have yet to be neutralized. This pursuit is part of a broader operational strategy that includes the IDF's activities in the Gaza Strip.
The figures shared by Binder highlight the extensive efforts by the IDF and Shin Bet to address the threats posed by those involved in the massacre, which included the murder and abduction of civilians, as well as hostage-taking. In September alone, 70 terrorists were eliminated, including several senior Hamas commanders and individuals directly involved in the October 7 invasion.
Key Figures Targeted in Recent Strikes
Among those eliminated was Muhammad Jamal Mahmoud Abu Al-Shaar, a Hamas military wing cell commander implicated in the abduction of six Israelis during the attack. He was killed in a strike in Gaza City. Another significant figure, Musab Abd al-Jalil Saqib Balbisi, a commander in the Islamic Jihad military wing, was also eliminated during this period.

The operations have targeted high-ranking officials, including brigade and battalion commanders, with notable eliminations such as Khan Yunis Brigade commander Muhammad Yazouri and Rafah Brigade commander Nael Abu Obeid. The intelligence efforts have been described as prolonged, with many terrorists hiding in tunnels or blending into civilian populations, necessitating extensive surveillance to confirm their identities and locations.
The Israeli security establishment views the ongoing mission to track down those responsible for the massacre and the abduction of Israelis as critical and non-negotiable. The commitment to this pursuit remains strong, reflecting the broader security strategy in response to the October 7 events.
