Danny Trejo Launches Crowdfunding Campaign for Year of the Devil Comic
Danny Trejo, known for his roles in films like Spy Kids and Machete, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for his creator-owned comic book, Year of the Devil, on BackerKit. This project debuted at San Diego Comic-Con, where Trejo signed promotional materials that are now being sold on eBay for prices ranging from $50 to $200.
Year of the Devil is a five-issue comic co-created by Trejo, Keith Arem, and writer Chris Yates. The story follows Diego de Rojas, a cursed warrior who has been forced to roam the Earth for centuries, hunting the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The narrative combines elements of Aztec mythology, biblical prophecy, and supernatural horror, presenting a unique blend of genres.
The plot centers on Diego, a Spanish conquistador who, after failing to prevent a massacre and inadvertently releasing the Devil from an ancient prison, becomes bound by a curse. This curse reincarnates him throughout history, compelling him to battle the Horsemen while trying to save the woman he loves and avert humanity's destruction. Trejo has mentioned that aspects of the character and story are influenced by his own family ancestry, which he explored in the PBS series Finding Your Roots.
Cleared to File
Supporters of the campaign can back various offerings, including the complete graphic novel, individual issues, exclusive covers, and premium editions. The team behind the comic is encouraging fans to share the campaign widely, stating, "Danny needs an army" to help promote this original creator-owned project.
As the campaign progresses, more surprises and additional content are expected to be revealed, making it an exciting opportunity for fans of Trejo and the comic genre.
