McLaren 788HS Unveiled as Final Model in 750S Lineup
McLaren has officially launched the 788HS, a high-performance supercar that signifies the end of the 750S family. Developed by the manufacturer’s Special Operations division, the 788HS is a track-focused vehicle that builds on the legacy of the 720S, 765LT, and 750S models. This new model arrives as McLaren embarks on a new chapter following its merger with British start-up Forseven in April 2025.
The 788HS features a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine that delivers an impressive 777bhp and 590lb ft of torque, making it the most powerful variant in McLaren's mid-engined supercar lineup. This power increase is attributed to new forged pistons and an upgraded exhaust system with four tailpipes, enhancing engine responsiveness and sound up to an 8500rpm rev limit. Additionally, the engine mounts have been refined to improve feedback to the driver.
Weighing in at 1265kg, the 788HS benefits from new carbonfibre bodywork that reduces weight compared to the 750S. This weight reduction, combined with the engine's output, allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in just 2.8 seconds, matching the performance of the 765LT. It can reach 124mph in 7.0 seconds and boasts a top speed of 205mph.
The aerodynamic enhancements include a new front splitter, an active rear spoiler, and a rear diffuser inspired by Formula 1, which collectively improve downforce by 10% over the 765LT. The suspension has been modified, lowering the car by 5mm compared to the base 750S, which McLaren claims will enhance body control and responsiveness.
Braking performance is also upgraded with new carbon-ceramic discs, similar to those used in the Senna hypercar, paired with six-pot aluminium calipers for improved feel and consistency during intense driving conditions.
The 788HS will be produced in a limited run of 200 units, split evenly between coupé and spider variants. Pricing starts at £450,000, reflecting a significant increase over the £250,000 price tag of the 750S, with final costs varying based on individual specifications, including options like a raw carbonfibre finish.
