Trump Proposes Military Complex at Triumphal Arch in D.C.
President Donald Trump has revealed intentions to utilize his proposed Triumphal Arch in Washington, D.C. as a military complex. This marks a continuation of his efforts to leverage national security as a justification for controversial projects, following his earlier proposal for a ballroom at the site of the former East Wing.
The envisioned arch would be equipped to deploy military drones and accommodate snipers, a move Trump claims is in response to requests from the U.S. military. However, this proposal has sparked significant backlash from political figures, including Democratic U.S. Representative Don Beyer, who has urged the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct a safety analysis. Beyer has labeled the plans as "stupid, dangerous, and unworkable," highlighting the potential risks associated with the arch's location near Reagan Washington National Airport.
The proposed arch is set to be situated along the Potomac River, at a roundabout at one end of the Arlington Memorial Bridge, adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery. The design features two gilded eagles and a winged angel atop the structure, with the phrases "One Nation Under God" and "Liberty and Justice For All" inscribed above.
