Bill Skarsgård Cast as Lead in Kojima Productions' Physint

Kojima Productions founder Hideo Kojima has officially announced that Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård will take on the role of the lead protagonist in Physint, the studio's forthcoming action-espionage game. This confirmation was made during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast. Skarsgård, recognized for his performances in films such as It, John Wick: Chapter 4, and Nosferatu, will be joined by an ensemble cast that includes Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Japanese actress Minami Hamabe.

The announcement was accompanied by a teaser poster featuring Skarsgård alongside Fraser, with the tagline "The next Cold War begins." Kojima noted that he personally captured the reference photo used for the poster, emphasizing the creative involvement in the game's marketing.

In addition to Skarsgård, the cast features notable actors such as Charlee Fraser, known for her role in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and Don Lee, who appeared in The Eternals. Earlier this year, Kojima confirmed that costume fittings, body scans, and camera tests were conducted with both Skarsgård and Fraser, utilizing Epic Games' MetaHuman technology to achieve real-time facial performance capture.

Kojima described Physint as a significant milestone in his nearly four-decade career in game development, linking it back to his early work on the iconic Metal Gear Solid series. The game is being developed alongside another project, OD, which is a cloud-powered horror title featuring filmmaker Jordan Peele.

Shifts in Publishing Partnerships Revealed

The Xbox publishing deal for Physint was previously disclosed, with PlayStation Studios having informed Kojima Productions in mid-June 2026 about their withdrawal from the project. Following this, Kojima's team spent approximately three months seeking a new publishing partner before re-establishing their collaboration with Xbox, which also covers the horror title OD.

Both PlayStation and Xbox, along with Kojima Productions, publicly confirmed the publishing switch on September 9 and 10, 2026, just prior to the casting announcement at the Tokyo Game Show. The TGS presentation reaffirmed Xbox's role as the publisher without introducing new details about the partnership.

Case Closed

As development continues, Kojima has indicated that Physint will require several more years of work, with no specific release date or launch platforms announced yet. The game is expected to push the boundaries of storytelling and gameplay, reflecting Kojima's innovative approach to game design.

The Tokyo Game Show 2026 faced an unexpected disruption when CESA canceled the event's fifth and final day due to the approaching Typhoon Dujuan, marking a historic first in the event's 30-year history where a day was called off after the show had already commenced.
