Iran Outlines Seven Conditions for US Negotiations
Iran has conveyed seven conditions to Washington for resuming negotiations, according to Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei. As US President Donald Trump weighs the possibility of launching another military campaign against Tehran, Rezaei emphasized that the United States must accept Iran's rights and conditions to resolve the current predicament. While he did not publicly detail all seven conditions, he did mention three specific demands: an end to the war on all fronts, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and the lifting of the US naval blockade. Rezaei indicated that these conditions had been communicated to Washington via Qatar, and Iran is now awaiting a response from Trump.
Despite ongoing tensions and the collapse of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, which aimed to halt hostilities, both nations have maintained indirect diplomatic contacts. The memorandum, reached after talks hosted by Pakistan in June, ultimately expired in August without establishing a lasting agreement, as both sides accused each other of violating its terms.
Rezaei adopted a more confrontational tone regarding Iran's military stance, asserting that Tehran has adjusted its approach toward Washington following the US withdrawal from the memorandum. He claimed that Iran had tested an anti-ship missile near an American aircraft carrier and stated that Iranian forces are now better prepared for potential US air attacks after identifying vulnerabilities in the American military.
Iran's Stance on Nuclear Weapons Policy
On the subject of Iran's nuclear policy, Rezaei reiterated that Tehran continues to adhere to the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's fatwa against nuclear weapons and has not changed its nuclear doctrine. However, he acknowledged uncertainty about future developments, noting that Israeli and US actions have already provided Iran with grounds to consider leaving the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, although no decision has been made yet. Rezaei stated that any such decision would depend on Washington's future conduct.
Cleared for Release
Trump recently indicated that he faces a significant decision regarding military action against Iran, stating, "I have a big decision coming up. Do I want to go in and annihilate [the Iranian regime] or do I not?" He expressed that Iran is interested in reaching an agreement but is not yet ready to do so. Trump also claimed that US military operations have hindered Iran's ability to develop nuclear weapons, asserting that without these operations, Iran would have already possessed such a weapon and would use it.
The President is expected to meet with leaders from the six Gulf Cooperation Council countries—Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman—during the upcoming UN General Assembly in New York. Discussions are anticipated to center around the ongoing conflict with Iran and Washington's strategic plans moving forward.
