Arrests Made in Connection with Criminal Leader Linked to Miners' Kidnapping
Mexican Army personnel, in collaboration with the Special Operations Group of the Sinaloa Secretariat of Public Security, have arrested 11 members of the "Chapitos" faction of the Pacific Cartel. This operation took place in La Isla del Bosque, Escuinapa, while the forces were conducting reconnaissance and patrols.
The detainees are associated with Oscar Luciano Martínez Larios, also known as "El Casco," who is a regional leader for the Chapitos. He is linked to the unlawful detention and murder of ten workers from the mining company Canam/Vizsla Silver Corp., an incident that occurred on January 23, 2026, in La Concordia.
During the operation, authorities confiscated 12 long guns, various ammunition, and tactical gear from the suspects. Following their arrest, the individuals and the seized items were transferred to the Attorney General's Office (FGR) in Culiacán for further legal proceedings.
Final Assessment
This operation highlights ongoing efforts by Mexican authorities to combat organized crime and bring justice to victims of violent crimes, particularly in regions affected by cartel activities. The kidnapping and murder of the miners have drawn significant attention, underscoring the dangers faced by individuals in areas controlled by criminal organizations.
As investigations continue, the focus remains on dismantling the networks that facilitate such violent acts and ensuring accountability for those involved in these heinous crimes.
