Argentina's President Javier Milei Backs Ben Gvir's Call on Falkland Islands
Argentine President Javier Milei shared a post from National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir on social media, advocating for Israel to recognize Argentina's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands. In his post, Ben Gvir emphasized that the British are occupying the islands and exploiting their resources, calling for Israel to take a stand against this perceived injustice. He urged Prime Minister Netanyahu to formally acknowledge Argentina's claim and to impose sanctions on Britain until the occupation ends.
Ben Gvir's comments were prompted by a report from The New York Times indicating that Britain is considering new economic measures against Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. These measures could include restrictions on trade and sanctions against companies involved in construction in these areas, expanding previous sanctions that primarily targeted individuals.
In response to the potential British sanctions, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for immediate action, suggesting that the British ambassador should be expelled. He expressed strong opposition to what he described as an antisemitic stance from the British government, linking it to broader geopolitical tensions involving radical Islam and economic challenges in Britain. Smotrich declared that the British Mandate in Israel is no longer valid, reinforcing the urgency of their position against British actions.
