Unauthorized Palestinian Antennas Discovered in Jerusalem's Old City
Recent findings indicate that an independent communications network is operating within Jerusalem's Old City, violating Israeli sovereignty. An investigation revealed the presence of 22 antennas belonging to Palestinian Authority cellular networks, strategically placed throughout the area. A test showed that dialing the emergency number from a device with a Palestinian SIM card connects to the Palestinian Authority police rather than the Israeli police emergency center. Cybersecurity researcher Dan mapped the antennas, noting their concentration in the Christian Quarter, which allows for comprehensive cellular coverage for users of these networks. Experts have raised alarms about the security implications of this setup, suggesting that it could facilitate monitoring and interception of communications by hostile actors, including Hamas and Iran. The Communications Ministry has initiated an inquiry into the antenna locations, while the Jerusalem Municipality confirmed that no permits were issued for their installation. The regulation of such communications infrastructure falls under the authority of the Communications and Environmental Protection Ministries, which will investigate any reported irregularities or violations.
