Yair Netanyahu Evacuated from US Following Life Threat
Yair Netanyahu, the eldest son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was flown back to Israel from the United States following a credible threat to his life, as reported by Israel's domestic intelligence agency, Shin Bet. The agency announced on Saturday evening that a decision was made to evacuate him along with his security team due to the significant threat.
While the specific source of the threat was not detailed, US broadcaster Newsmax indicated that Yair Netanyahu was reportedly the target of an Iranian assassination plot last December while residing in Florida. Israeli intelligence had informed US authorities after becoming aware of this alleged plot.
Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the threat during an interview with Israel’s Channel 14, stating that Iran had attempted to harm one of his sons. Following this revelation, Yair Netanyahu was instructed to leave the area immediately, departing without his personal belongings and returning directly to Israel.
For several years, Yair Netanyahu has lived in Florida, where his lifestyle and the state-funded security he received have attracted public scrutiny in Israel. His continued stay in the US after the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, drew criticism from many Israelis, who questioned the appropriateness of his residency while numerous Israeli reservists were mobilized.
As a right-wing activist and podcaster, Yair Netanyahu is known for his active presence on social media, where he frequently comments on Israeli politics and criticizes his father's political opponents, government critics, and journalists.
