Greece and Israel to Sign Achilles Shield Defense Agreements in Tel Aviv
Agreements for Greece's integrated air-defense and anti-missile protection system, known as the Achilles Shield, are set to be signed on August 31 in Tel Aviv. This defense initiative, valued at €3 billion, will involve the General Directorate for Defence Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) of Greece's Ministry of National Defence and the Israeli Ministry of Defense's Directorate of Defense Cooperation (SIBAT), along with various Israeli defense entities and companies involved in the project.
The Achilles Shield was approved by Greece's Government Council for National Security (KYSEA) on July 23, 2026. Greek Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias highlighted that the total investment for the anti-aircraft systems slightly exceeds €3 billion. He also indicated that the system is expected to be operational within 35 months, with the delivery of the system occurring in phases.
