Delhi Police Arrest Couple Linked to Pakistan's ISI in Espionage Case
Delhi Police have arrested a couple in New Delhi who are accused of working for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) through social media. The couple, identified as Md Sahil and his wife, Sameera, allegedly provided logistical support to ISI handlers by procuring Indian SIM cards. These SIM cards were sent to Pakistan via Dubai for use by Pakistani intelligence operatives. According to police reports, the couple sent eight Indian SIM cards to Pakistan between 2024 and 2025 and received approximately Rs 30,000 in return for their efforts.
The investigation by the Special Cell of Delhi Police began after receiving information about an ISI-backed network operating in the Delhi-NCR region. This network was reportedly recruiting locals to procure SIM cards, which were then sent to Pakistan. The Indian numbers were used to activate WhatsApp accounts, enabling Pakistani operatives to join Indian WhatsApp groups and gather sensitive information.
Sahil's arrest was facilitated by forensic analysis of his phone, which revealed conversations with Pakistani agents. During interrogation, he disclosed that he was introduced to a Pakistani agent on Instagram in 2024 through Sameera, whom he later married. This agent subsequently connected the couple with a Pakistani intelligence operative, who recruited them in exchange for financial incentives.
Sahil was also tasked with recruiting individuals to conduct reconnaissance on military cantonment areas and gather information about Army personnel facing court-martial proceedings. Sameera was arrested for her involvement in providing Indian SIM cards to Pakistani entities. Forensic examinations of both individuals' phones confirmed their communications with Pakistani handlers.
Authorities recovered two mobile phones used in the operation and are currently investigating the network's structure, methods, and connections with local operatives and sleeper cells.
