Shane Black's 'Bannerman' Spy Series Set to Premiere on Netflix

Shane Black, known for his work on Lethal Weapon and The Nice Guys, is set to bring a new spy series titled 'Bannerman' to Netflix. This project represents the first co-production between AMC Global Media and Netflix. Black has co-written the pilot episode, which he will also direct, along with the second episode.

The series is an adaptation of a spy novel series by author John R. Maxim, focusing on a group of former spies, including the main character Paul Bannerman, who are attempting to live normal lives in a quiet Connecticut town. Craig Silverstein, recognized for his work on Nikita and Turn: Washington’s Spies, co-wrote the pilot with Black.

Maxim's series consists of five books, and 'Bannerman' is positioned as Black's follow-up to his successful adaptation of Parker for Amazon Prime. This new venture marks his first foray into television as both a writer and director, as well as his inaugural project with Netflix.

The production team includes Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten, who have a history of collaboration with AMC, particularly known for their work on The Walking Dead. The announcement of 'Bannerman' came in 2023, coinciding with a new streaming licensing agreement between AMC and Netflix. Initially intended for AMC and AMC+, the series gained momentum with Netflix's involvement, leading to its green light.

Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media, expressed enthusiasm about the project, describing it as a smart, high-octane thrill ride. He emphasized the significance of this co-production as a step forward in their partnership with Netflix, aiming to jointly develop and produce original series for both platforms.

While an official release date has yet to be announced, the distribution plan indicates that 'Bannerman' will debut on AMC in North America, with Netflix gaining access to the series 90 days later. In select regions, including Australia, New Zealand, and Spain, episodes will be released simultaneously on both platforms. For the rest of the world, 'Bannerman' will be available exclusively on Netflix.

The plot centers around Paul Bannerman, a covert operative who persuades a group of elite assassins to abandon their dangerous lifestyles for a chance at normalcy in suburban Connecticut. However, their pasts threaten to disrupt their new lives, as they face old enemies and a relentless ex-cop.

Currently, there are no cast members announced, but further updates regarding casting and filming dates are anticipated as the series progresses through development.
