Sen. Tim Scott Supports Darline Graham After Debate Misstep on National Security
Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) publicly defended Darline Graham following her unclear response to a national security question during a debate last week. Scott stated he is "very confident" in her abilities to serve as a senator, emphasizing that he took time to ensure she was prepared for the role. "As the senior senator for South Carolina, I want Darline Graham representing our state," he said on a recent episode of "Meet The Press."
Graham, who was appointed to her brother Lindsey Graham's Senate seat after his passing, is currently running for a full term. She faced criticism after admitting during the debate that she was not well-informed on national security issues, stating, "I’m just going to be honest here. I’m not that informed on national security. But I do support the military. My brother was in the Air Force for 33 years, so I will do everything I can to support the military."
Despite her admission, Scott labeled Graham as "the real deal." He noted that President Trump also endorsed her candidacy at a South Carolina rally, where Trump praised her character and connection to Lindsey Graham. "Darline is somebody I’ve known for a long time, I asked her to do this," Trump said, expressing confidence in her potential to serve effectively.
Scott remarked on Trump's speech, highlighting how he made it personal by referencing his relationship with Lindsey Graham and the late senator's commitment to national security. Trump characterized Darline Graham as someone who understands politics and has a passion for supporting the military and American greatness. He expressed optimism about her future in the Senate, despite her lack of prior political experience.
