Netflix and AMC to Adapt Bannerman Spy Novels into New Series
Netflix and AMC Studios have formed a partnership to co-produce a new spy drama titled Bannerman, based on the novels by John R. Maxim. The series will center on the character Paul Bannerman, a former spy who struggles to leave his past behind while trying to lead a quiet life. Despite his efforts, his former life continues to intrude, putting his girlfriend and her father in jeopardy.
The adaptation will draw from the five-novel series but will not strictly adhere to the original storylines. AMC is set to air the series first in the United States and Canada, with Netflix gaining access to the show 90 days after the season finale. Additionally, both networks will jointly release episodes in Australia, New Zealand, and Spain, while Netflix will serve as the platform for the rest of the world.
Paul Bannerman is depicted as a skilled covert operative who has convinced some of the world's most dangerous assassins to abandon their careers for a chance at normalcy in suburban Connecticut. However, the challenges of retirement are compounded by old enemies, a suspicious government, and a relentless ex-cop.
Craig Silverstein, known for his work on Nikita and Turn: Washington's Spies, will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer for Bannerman. Shane Black, recognized for his work on Lethal Weapon and Iron Man 3, will co-write the premiere and direct the first two episodes. Executive producers also include Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten, both of whom have notable credits in the industry.
As anticipation builds, further details regarding casting, filming schedules, and a premiere date are eagerly awaited.
