US and Ukraine Restore Intelligence Sharing to Previous Levels
The United States and Ukraine have restored their intelligence sharing to previous levels in recent months, as reported by Politico, which cited US lawmakers. This restoration is viewed as a crucial step in enhancing cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the context of ongoing tensions with Russia. Senator Mark Warner, who serves as the vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, stated that while he could not provide specific details, he acknowledged that the situation has improved. He emphasized that US intelligence has played a vital role in aiding Ukraine's military efforts, particularly in the use of long-range drones and missiles to strike targets deep within Russian territory. Other senators, including John Cornyn and Roger Wicker, confirmed that intelligence sharing has notably increased. Senator Tim Kaine, who visited Ukraine in April and July of this year, remarked on the heightened confidence in communication between the two countries. This renewed cooperation comes amid accusations from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who has claimed that the United States is directly involved in Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory, including civilian targets, by providing weapons and intelligence support.
