Savannah Guthrie Shaken by Security Breach at Today Show Studio
On July 16, a security breach at NBC's Rockefeller Center studios during the Today show left host Savannah Guthrie visibly shaken. A man identified as Andrew Truelove, 41, managed to slip past security and allegedly lunged at fellow host Craig Melvin while shouting a racial slur. Fortunately, security personnel quickly subdued Truelove before he could reach Studio 1A, which is protected by additional security measures. Law enforcement reported that Truelove had asked for longtime weatherman Al Roker before confronting Melvin. He was taken into custody without any injuries reported.
This unsettling incident comes as Guthrie continues to cope with the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who vanished from her home in Arizona on February 1, 2026. Family members raised concerns after she failed to appear for a scheduled church livestream. The FBI has since offered a reward for information regarding Nancy's whereabouts, but nearly five months later, no arrests have been made.
Sources close to Guthrie indicate that the security breach has compounded her distress. "She's still shell-shocked, and will be for a long time," a source noted, emphasizing the profound impact of the incident on her. Just before the security breach, Savannah announced her temporary departure from Today to film a new Wordle game show, expressing excitement about the upcoming project.
In response to the breach, NBC issued a statement confirming the incident and its commitment to reviewing security protocols. "Today is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter," the statement read. The network emphasized its dedication to ensuring a safe environment for all employees and guests.
Truelove has been charged with third-degree burglary and menacing as a hate crime. A temporary protection order has been issued, requiring him to stay away from both Melvin and Roker. The complaint against him states that he intentionally attempted to instill fear in another person through physical menace. Truelove has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the case continues to unfold as the investigation proceeds.
