BMW Confirms More Powerful iX3 Variants Are on the Way
BMW's product chief in Australia has recently confirmed that a more powerful variant of the iX3 is on the horizon, following years of speculation and spy photos of prototypes. The current iX3 50 xDrive is considered a mid-tier model, and Brendan Michel, the product boss, hinted at the development of an M-flavored version. The iX3 M60 is expected to be the first of these variants, with production slated to begin in March 2024 at the Debrecen plant in Hungary. This model is anticipated to deliver a significant power boost, potentially exceeding 600 horsepower from its dual motors.
While the iX3 M60 will be the first performance variant, BMW is also planning to introduce a full M model, the electric X3 M, which is expected to enter production in November 2027. This model is likely to feature quad motors, similar to the electric M3, with an output estimated between 800 and 850 horsepower. The naming convention will follow that of the electric M3, simply being called the X3 M.
In addition to the iX3, BMW is expanding its electric vehicle offerings with the upcoming iX4 and the i3 Touring, both of which are potential candidates for M performance variants. The iX4 is set to debut this fall, while the i3 Touring is expected to arrive in 2027 alongside a conventional 3 Series Touring. This expansion indicates BMW M's commitment to providing a diverse range of high-performance electric vehicles, although enthusiasts seeking a manual transmission may be disappointed.
