Cyberattack Targets Over 30 Minnesota Water Systems
Minnesota IT Services has reported a coordinated cyberattack targeting technology at over 30 community water systems between July 26 and July 27. In response to the attacks, the state has activated its cybersecurity incident response capabilities. Four cities—Plymouth, South St. Paul, Maple Plain, and Braham—have disclosed that they were among those affected. Fortunately, all four municipalities indicated that the impacts were limited or mitigated, allowing residents to continue their normal water use without concern. The Minnesota Department of Health has confirmed that no municipality has requested residents to change their drinking water practices due to the cyberattacks. State officials are currently working alongside federal and private-sector partners to investigate the incidents, support the affected communities, and bolster the security of Minnesota's critical infrastructure.
