Acting DNI William Pulte Announces Fourth Wave of Layoffs

William Pulte, the Acting Director of National Intelligence, announced on Sunday that his office has completed a fourth round of layoffs as part of an ongoing effort to streamline operations within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). In a post on social media, Pulte stated, "Since becoming Acting Director of National Intelligence, our team has been smartly, and carefully, reducing the size of ODNI, re-focusing on national security, the law, and the statute." He expressed gratitude for the completion of this latest round of layoffs, which he described as thoughtful and measured.

This announcement follows Pulte's earlier comments on July 10, where he noted that U.S. National Intelligence is operating more efficiently than ever and that the agency was undergoing a third round of personnel reductions aimed at eliminating redundant roles. Pulte's appointment as Acting DNI came after Tulsi Gabbard stepped down from the position last month, citing personal reasons related to her husband's health.

President Donald Trump appointed Pulte, who previously served as the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and has indicated a desire for a more streamlined intelligence agency. In a prior interview, Trump expressed that he believed the ODNI was "unnecessary and/or too big," and encouraged Pulte to begin the process of reducing personnel, particularly those he viewed as carryovers from previous administrations.

Pulte has publicly thanked Trump for the opportunity to serve in this role, highlighting the accomplishments made in operational efficiency and transparency during his brief tenure. He expressed optimism about the future of the DNI, emphasizing a commitment to following the law and focusing on national security priorities.
