New Zealand Intelligence Targeted Russia's Military Cooperation
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has reported that New Zealand's intelligence service was actively seeking information on Russia's military and military-technical cooperation with Asia-Pacific nations. This revelation follows the FSB's announcement of the detention of a Russian citizen from Khabarovsk on espionage charges. According to the FSB, the individual took the initiative to connect with New Zealand's intelligence, which is part of the Five Eyes alliance that includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.
An official from the FSB stated that New Zealand's intelligence aimed to gather intelligence through a recruited agent regarding Russia's military engagements in the Asia-Pacific region. The FSB has initiated a criminal case against the detainee, who is now facing high treason charges. The agency indicated that the individual, acting under the direction of a foreign intelligence service, utilized foreign email services and messaging applications to relay information that could jeopardize Russia's security. This incident underscores the ongoing tensions and espionage activities between nations in the context of international military cooperation.
