Acting DNI Bill Pulte Dismisses More Intelligence Officials
Acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte confirmed on Sunday evening that he has dismissed more intelligence officials, marking the fourth round of layoffs since he assumed the role. Pulte stated that the team has been strategically reducing the size of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) to better align its focus on national security and legal statutes. He expressed gratitude for the support received during this process on social media platform X.
In previous rounds of firings, Pulte let go of over 50 career intelligence officials, which he referred to as the beginning of the "Deep State firings." Reports indicated that among those dismissed were six political intelligence staffers, with 45 others reassigned to their home agencies. Additionally, six political appointees selected by former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard were also terminated.
Pulte has highlighted his commitment to working alongside dedicated professionals at the National Counterterrorism Center, praising their efforts in safeguarding the nation under President Trump's leadership. The ongoing restructuring comes as President Trump has nominated Jay Clayton, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, to serve as the new Director of National Intelligence. However, Clayton's confirmation has been postponed until the Senate confirms his replacement as U.S. Attorney, allowing Pulte to continue with the layoffs. The Senate is anticipated to confirm Clayton early this week, which could influence the future direction of the ODNI.
