Search Intensifies for Missing 4-Year-Old in Ashkelon
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir visited Ashkelon on Friday morning to receive updates on the search for 4-year-old Yuval Kogan, who has been missing since Thursday. During his visit, Ben Gvir conducted a situational assessment with the Southern District commander, the regional commander, and senior officers involved in the search operation. Security officials briefed him on the extensive efforts that have been underway since Yuval was reported missing.
At the conclusion of the assessment, Ben Gvir directed that field forces be reinforced and that Israel Police utilize all available resources until Yuval is found. He later met with Yuval's parents, offering support and assuring them that the police and security forces are committed to locating their child and bringing him home safely.
Search efforts resumed on Friday after continuing throughout the night. Police drones scanned the area overnight, while significant forces are conducting searches by air, land, and sea, covering the coastline and surrounding areas. The operation involves personnel from the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), the police air unit, marine police, volunteer diving teams, civilian volunteers, and additional emergency and rescue organizations. As of Friday morning, authorities reported no significant breakthroughs in the search.
Earlier, Israel Police released a description of Yuval and appealed to the public for assistance. The child is described as having a slim build, brown hair, and was last seen wearing a green shirt near Hofit Beach. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the Israel Police emergency hotline or the Ashkelon Police Station.
Yuval's mother, Dina Kogan, expressed fears that her son may have been abducted and urged the public to assist in the search. She recounted that the family had been on a sand dune near the beach and lost sight of Yuval for several minutes before he disappeared.
