Raytheon Secures $1.8 Billion Contract for SPY-6 Radar Series

Raytheon, a division of RTX, has announced the receipt of an $1.8 billion contract extension from the U.S. Navy for the SPY-6 radar series. This contract extends the initial hardware manufacturing and maintenance agreement awarded in March 2022. The new contract includes options that, if exercised, could bring the total value to $3.3 billion. Barbara Borgonovi, President of Raytheon's Naval Power division, emphasized that this extension reflects the Navy's confidence in Raytheon's ability to deliver advanced, reliable, and scalable radar solutions. The company plans to continue investing in production expansion to ensure the fleet maintains a technological edge against evolving threats over the coming decades.

Currently, the SPY-6 radar is installed on two operational U.S. Navy ships, with an additional eleven vessels set to be equipped with the system. Various stages of testing are underway on these ships, and projections indicate that over 50 Navy vessels will be outfitted with the SPY-6 radar within the next ten years. This deployment will provide the fleet with unparalleled detection capabilities and responsiveness to multiple missions.
