Ijaw Youths Praise Tinubu and Ribadu for PAP Scholarship Expansion
The Ijaw Youth Network (IYN) has expressed its appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu for their significant expansion of scholarship and training initiatives under the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). In a statement released in Abuja, the IYN encouraged PAP Administrator Dr. Dennis Otuaro to remain steadfast and ignore detractors of the program. The group highlighted that under Otuaro's leadership, access to education and vocational training for Niger Delta youths has notably increased. Since his appointment in March 2024, over 9,000 individuals from the Niger Delta have received scholarships for studies in Nigerian universities, while 273 others are benefiting from overseas scholarship opportunities. The IYN noted that the program has produced more than 50 first-class graduates and 40 second-class upper graduates in the past two academic years. Additionally, the IYN pointed out the successful graduation of four pilot cadets and two instrument rating trainees in South Africa, along with 40 aviation cadets in Lagos and 98 maritime cadets in Delta State. The training of 360 delegates in alternative dispute resolution and mediation has also been highlighted as a significant contribution to peace-building efforts in the region. The IYN stated that these accomplishments reflect Otuaro's dedication to human capital development and socio-economic progress in the Niger Delta. The group believes that communities are beginning to see the benefits of the program, despite some criticism. They urged Otuaro to stay focused on the program's objectives, emphasizing that the future of the Niger Delta is looking brighter. The organization also commended the PAP administration for the timely and transparent payment of delegates' monthly stipends, expressing gratitude to President Tinubu and the National Security Adviser for their support in enhancing the program. The IYN concluded by asserting that Otuaro has made substantial strides in fulfilling the President's vision for the Niger Delta and should not be swayed by distractions.
