Ben Gvir Highlights Impact of Tougher Prison Conditions on Terrorism
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir spoke to volunteers from the Judea and Samaria District's initial response unit, underscoring the importance of the tougher prison conditions imposed on security prisoners. He referenced data from Shin Bet, which indicates a marked decrease in terror attacks following the implementation of these stricter conditions. Ben Gvir shared a comment he received, stating that terrorists now refer to him as a 'nutcase' due to their fear of ending up in his prisons.
Sources within Shin Bet and Israel's security establishment have reported a significant shift in the incarceration conditions for terrorists since Ben Gvir took office. They noted that this change has led to a reduced motivation among potential attackers. Previously, young Palestinians entering Israeli prisons often received stipends from the Palestinian Authority and enjoyed relatively comfortable conditions, including meals, showers, and academic opportunities. However, under Ben Gvir’s policies, the conditions in security prisons have become much harsher, prompting terrorists to reconsider their actions. One recently released operative remarked that had he known about the current conditions, he would not have engaged in any violent acts.
